How much RAM do you need for a Minecraft server?

It's Minecraft admins' question number one. The answer depends on your server type, concurrent players and installed plugins.

  • Vanilla server (1–10 players): 2 to 4 GB of RAM are enough for a vanilla or lightly modded server. Our VPS-S at €7.99/month is a perfect fit.
  • Paper/Spigot server with plugins (10–30 players): 4 to 8 GB of RAM. VPS-S or VPS-M depending on how many plugins are active.
  • Heavy modpack server (Feed The Beast, RLCraft, etc.): 8 to 16 GB of RAM minimum. Forge and heavy modpacks are very demanding.
  • BungeeCord / Velocity network (multiple linked servers): 16 GB and up. Each sub-server uses its own RAM.
  • Bedrock server (MCPE): less demanding than Java — 2 GB is enough for 20 players.

Unlike shared hosting or "slot-based" offers from gaming hosts, our KVM VPS guarantee 100% of the ordered RAM — no sharing with other players on the same physical node.

Spigot, Paper, Purpur, Forge: which version to choose?

Vanilla and near-vanilla servers

Vanilla is Mojang's official server — simple but limited (no plugins). Spigot is the historical base of the modding community: stable, compatible with most Bukkit plugins. Paper (a Spigot fork) is today's recommended standard: better performance, chunk-loading optimizations, Bukkit/Spigot plugin support.

Purpur and Folia

Purpur is a Paper fork with even more optimizations and advanced configuration options for admins. Folia, developed by the Paper team, is experimental and designed for very large servers with hundreds of concurrent players (regionalized multi-threading).

Forge and Fabric (modpacks)

Forge is the historical modding platform, compatible with the vast majority of mods available. Fabric is lighter and more modern — preferred by performance- and survival-oriented mods. Both are supported on our VPS with full root access.

For a complex gaming network with multiple server types, see our Pterodactyl Panel page which lets you manage several instances from a single interface. Also running a Discord bot to animate your community? Our Discord bot hosting plans are perfect for that.

Minecraft Server FAQ

Answers to the most common questions.

Which plan should I choose for my Minecraft server? +
For a server with fewer than 20 players on Vanilla or Paper with few plugins, MC-S (4 GB) is enough. MC-M (8 GB) fits 30 to 60 players with plugins. MC-L (16 GB) is recommended for large communities or servers with many mods (Forge, heavy modpacks).
Are Java Edition and Bedrock both supported? +
Yes, both. For Bedrock, you can install Nukkit or the official Bedrock Server. For simultaneous Java + Bedrock compatibility, GeyserMC is also supported and runs very well on our VPS.
Can I install a management panel like Pterodactyl? +
Yes. With full root access, you can install Pterodactyl Panel and Wings to manage your Minecraft server from a web interface. We also offer dedicated Pterodactyl VPS if you want to manage multiple game servers.
Is port 25565 open by default? +
Yes. Port 25565 (Java) and port 19132 (Bedrock/UDP) are open by default on our VPS. No additional firewall setup is required for your players to connect.
Is the estimated player count guaranteed? +
Player count is an estimate based on a Paper server with typical plugins. It may vary depending on your server type, plugins, world size and player behavior. A heavy modpack (ATM, RLCraft, etc.) will require more RAM.
Can I upgrade to a higher plan? +
Yes, at any time. Your world and all your data are preserved during the migration to a higher plan. Contact our support to schedule the switch with minimal downtime.
